Antioxidant Activities in Shoots and Roots of Hydroponic cultured Ginseng
Park Jae-Ho

Abstract
Objective: Research of the antioxidant activities of Hydropoic cultured Ginseng shoots and roots extracts

Methods£ºAntioxidant activities of Hydropoic cultured Ginseng shoots and roots extracts were investigated using extracted various concentrations of ethylacetate (EtOAC). The DPPH, ABTS and hydroxyl radical scavenging assay and Fe2+ chelating assay were performed to characterize antioxidative effects. Also, we determinate the total phenolic content of the shoot and the root.

Results: When the different concentrations of ethyl acetate (0.32, 1.6, 8, 40, 200§¶/§¢) were tested with the shoot of Hydropoic cultured Ginseng, the extracts at 200 ug/ml resulted in the highest DPPH, ABTS, hydroxyl radical scavenging, and Fe2+ chelating activities, and the activities were 81, 86, 41, and 52%, respectively. The shoot extracts showed the higher antioxidative activities than the root extracts at same concentration. The total phenolic contents of shoot and root were 31.3 mg/g, 25.1 mg/g, respectively. We consider that the phenolic compound is associated with antioxidant activities.

Conclusion: This study indicates that the shoot extracts showed higher antioxidant activities and total phenolic content than the root extracts.
